The Comprehensive Long-Range Resiliency Plan

Breaux Bridge is a small city east of Lafayette with a strong Cajun identity. The city is home to multiple festivals, popular restaurants, a historic downtown, and natural areas that attract visitors from across the region. The Breaux Bridge Comprehensive Long-Range Resiliency Plan aims to grow the city in economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable ways, while ensuring the city can rebound quickly and efficiently following natural disasters. The plan takes a close look at current conditions, ordinances, and annexation procedures, then outlines structural and non-structural strategies the city should follow to address major threats in a coordinated manner. The mission of this comprehensive plan is to extend the cultural flavor of the Downtown area to all parts of the community and define the character by this extension. Developed from an extensive site inventory and analysis of the community of Breaux Bridge, the comprehensive plan is the result of collaboration between public officials, consultants, and most importantly, local citizens. The plan’s goal is to manage Breaux Bridge’s growth while maintaining the unique hometown Cajun atmosphere for which it is known. The 20 year planning horizon addresses future transportation, future land use, and beautification.   The Vision:  “Breaux Bridge should strive towards becoming a resilient and sustainable Acadian community, committed to molding its future growth in a pattern that preserves its heritage and cultural appeal while promoting modern opportunity for its future generations.”   You may access and download the complete Breaux Bridge Comprehensive Long-Range Resiliency Plan below: Table of Contents Acknowledgements Ch 1 – Project Overview Ch 2 – History and Tourism Ch 3 – Site Inventory Ch 4 – Land Use and Character Ch 5 – Growth Management and Capacity Ch 6 – SWOT Analysis Ch 7 – Implementation Table 7.1 – Action Agenda   – Appendix A – Existing and Future Character Areas   – Appendix B – Ordinance Critique – Assessment and Annotated Outline   – Appendix C – Meeting Agendas and Notes Chapter 3 Maps: Map 3.1 – Drainage Basins Map 3.2 – West Atchafalaya Protection Levee Map 3.3 – LIDAR Map 3.4 – FEMA DFIRM Map 3.5 – Soils Map 3.6 – Cultural and Historical District Chapter 4 Maps: Map 4.1 – Existing Land Use Map 4.2 – Residential Building Condition Assessment Map 4.3 – Existing Character Map 4.4 – Beautification Plan Map 4.5 – Future Land Use and Growth Plan Chapter 5 Maps: Map 5.1 – Thoroughfare Plan Map 5.2 – Sidewalk Plan Map 5.3 – Utility Service Areas...
